The baby is finally asleep, it only took 49 minutes of you patting his back in the crib. Time for your escape! So you gracefully begin your slow, tiptoe exit. You are three steps from the door when it happens. The cries come almost simultaneously to the squeak from the floor. Resume back pats…
Squeaky floors are usually a subfloor issue. The noises often start at the joist and subfloor level, where expansion and contraction can lead to nail pops that can cause shifting and bumps on the finished floor above.
Those squeaks, crackles, and pops can be a huge annoyance. Not only when sneaking out of nurseries but anywhere in a house. Owners of a brand new home may rejoice because they are moving from an “old” home and can finally escape the nuisance of loud floors and squeaky stairs. Well, that celebration may be short-lived. If the home was built to minimum code and the contractors used nails, in time they will probably start hearing those annoying squeaks and calling back their builder.
The best way to avoid a noisy floor is to ensure that the subfloor is properly glued and screwed to the floor joists. The SubLoc® PRO SCRAIL® was developed to avoid subfloor squeaks. The upper threads grab into the deckboard and prevent micro movement of the wood even in the event of wood shrinkage.
The aggressive double threads are designed for squeak-less floors because no smooth shank between the upper and lower threads prevents board movement that can lead to unwanted noises. And the good news is that the SubLoc® PRO SCRAIL® offers the hold of a screw with the ease of use of a nail and can be quickly driven with a pneumatic nailer.
The peace and quiet of home can await those that choose the right fastener. For more information about installing squeak-less subfloors, download our eGuide:
