Where to start, where to start? So many business books, lecture series, and online seminars exist offering secrets and takeaways to surviving in competitive markets. This could easily turn into a bullet list of suggestions, but we would rather offer a secret that your competitors may not even know about just yet!
There are definitely business rules, standards, tips and tricks out there to help a company in every industry survive. We employ several standards ourselves, after 112 years in business we’ve certainly learned a thing or two. We like solving problems. And we think the crating (and pallet) industry has an opportunity to be even better.
So what is this big secret?
Well, it’s not really a secret any longer. But “secrets” get attention. We took our successful SCRAIL® product and added 15 degree plastic rope collation combined with coarse thread SCRAIL® for use in most common 15-degree pallet coil nailers which allows pallet and crating manufacturers to more effectively and efficiently build and dismantle pallets and crates!
With crating applications, a big challenge many face is in the actual removal of the fastener from the wood, without damaging the integrity of the crate. A fine thread fastener needs to do many more revolutions to be removed, which also increases the possibility that it will strip the threads causing aggravation to the company who bought the product, and causing delays in their own production process. The coarse thread means that there are fewer threads per inch on this fastener versus a fine thread SCRAIL® so it extracts much more consistently.
The key to thecrating SCRAIL® is the change to the thread angle. The coarse thread gives it more surface area, which allows it to grip the wood better, an important feature when shipping or moving valuable inventory or merchandise using crates or pallets.
For pallets, the coarse thread helps to hold pallets together better for a longer hold. A nail might not have enough holding power to keep a deck board secure with a runner, especially when the runner keeps getting hit repeatedly by a forklift. When you increase the longevity of a pallet, you help keep costs down, saving money.
